What I know about the Holocaust...

I know a lot of information about the Holocaust. The holocaust occurred when Hitler, a German dictator, decided to blame all of his problems on the Jews. He wanted to get rid of every race except for the white Germans. The Jews were distinguished by wearing the Star of David on their clothing. The Jews suffered through many tribulations. Jews had to be separated from other people. Hitler took segregation to a whole new level. The Holocaust's purpose was to eliminate all the Jews. Jews were treated differently than everybody else and often treated lowly. Millions of Jews were sent to concentration camps where they had to do hard work, and were often killed in gas chambers. A gas chamber was basically a room where they put a bunch of Jews and then fill the room with gas until the people die. After the people died they would burn the bodies. Many parents died not knowing what happened to their family members and friends. Some families, like the Frank family, tried to hide out to escape the Germans, but were eventually caught. Not all Germans were mean though. A few Germans tried to help the Jews and were persecuted for it. Many books and movies have been made about the Holocaust including The Diary of Anne Frank, The Boy in the Striped Pijamas, Hannah's Suitcase, Sophie's Choice, and more. The Holocaust was a devastating historical event which is now awknowledged in many muesems.

  1. Have you seen many of these movies, Brandi? I want to watch "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas," but haven't had a chance to yet. My husband has seen "Schindler's List," but I haven't seen it. I have watched a number of documentaries on the subject and have been to the museum in Washington, DC. Very moving.
