If I were born to a low income family in Africa, I would probably spend most of my time gathering water to drink with my mother. I also would be vulnerable to disease as a result of drinking this unclean water. My mother, sister(s), and I would most likely be responsible for walking to collect water for our family. While spending so much time walking many miles (average 3.7 miles) every day, I wouldn't be able to go to school, or spend much time having fun. I would be unhealthy and uneducated.
As a Christian, my responsibility would be to help in as many ways as I can. In the Bible it says: "For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’". What I get from this verse is Jesus telling me that we should always help the poor and needy. Even if I donate a dollar to my mission story at church, it's still helping someone, somewhere. Just make sure the people you give to aren't a scam. Sometimes you can't really tell, but that's between them and God. I just have to make sure that I give with an open heart.
We should always be willing to help those who are less fortunate than us. Life is way to precious to spend it wasting resources like water that we often take for granted. You might now be thinking "I want to help, but how can I help these African people who are miles and miles away?". One way is through charitywater.org. This is an organization that helps to start and fund projects to get African people clean water and filtration systems. By clicking the blue donate button you will be giving only $20, but recieving the satisfaction that someone, somewhere is getting clean water because of your thoughtful act. Remember that this is our world, and these are our people. Let's take care of what God has given us and help those in need.
