Celebrities are often busy and don't have much spare time. When they read fan mail, they have to decide if it's important enough to respond to. You don't even know if the celebrity will read the letter you write them, much less reply. Nevertheless, there's still a small chance they will read it, and that's the chance you take when you write a famous person.
If the celebrity reads your letter, you want it to be something that they'll think about and something that will influence them. Add a personal touch to your writing and be polite. You never know, maybe they'll reply!
Why write to celebrities? Because they influence many peoples lives. If they read and think about your letter, they could influence many people that you probably wouldn't be able to reach.
Today I wrote a letter to celebrity Jennifer Anniston about why she shouldn't advertise water bottles. If she reads it and agrees with my statement, she could influence many people to stop purchasing bottled water. The letter is below.
Dear Miss Anniston,
My name is Brandi and I am in the -th grade. I am writing to you to ask you to rethink advertising bottled water. Bottled water is bad for the environment, and is not healthier than tap water. Did you know that people in India are being swindled of their clean water supply for water bottles to unnecessarily be made? We don't need disposable water bottles. You would be drinking the same thing if you filled a reusable water bottle with tap water.

Water bottles are also bad for the environment. Did you know that 75% of water bottles aren't recycled, but that they actually end up in landfills. Plastic waste is killing ocean animals worldwide. Also, for some reason most people think that bottled water is safer than tap water. This is not true. In some cases, tap water is actually safer than bottled water. Poor people all around the world don't even have clean water available to them. For a fraction amount of the money consumers spend on bottled water every year, everyone on the planet could have clean water and proper sanitation.
Most of the time we don't even know where our bottled water comes from- we just get enticed by the vibrant photos and catchy commercials. If we all just stopped buying expensive bottled water and drank normal tap water, we would reduce waste, stop killing animals, save many lives, and still be just as healthy.
Sincerely,
Brandi
Brandi - you make many compelling points in your letter. I'm convinced! (Of course, I was convinced before I read your letter.) I wonder how many such letters it would take to have her publicist or manager or whomever actually tell her to read the letters? I think our whole class should send our letters after they are edited to make sure they are without errors. Some of your classmates found an address for Ms. Aniston. I have no idea if it is correct, but it is worth a try and a $0.49 stamp to see, don't you think?
